What is also a bit disappointing: Now, as I am on a new Hub (new install with the debian-setup script) with no reverse proxy in between (at the moment), still I can't get desktop notifications, as it has been the case on the old Hub, but now on a the new Hub as well. Maybe there are settings which stop that from working?

Offtopic: Did you encountered any problems with the debian-install script, #^https://framagit.org/hubzilla/core/-/tree/master/.debianinstall?ref_type=heads. Any comments on this?

Thanks for the feedback. Next time I install it on a Raspi I will adapt it to Debian 13 (stable).

Haha, I have run into this trap too several times. You can switch off verification by email, see #^https://framagit.org/hubzilla/core/-/blob/master/.debianinstall/README.md?ref_type=heads#optional---switch-verification-of-email-onoff

util/config system verify_email 0

Check with

util/config system verify_email

How could we present this important step to make it more prominent? Hmm..

Yes, it is an adaptation of a script by Thomas Willingham, a very early adopter of one of Mike Macgirvin's pre-pre-pre ancestors of Hubzilla. This is ages ago. The script has evolved over time since then. I'm happy that it worked for you.
